Last night I did the exercise of facing blocks and fears related to asking for financial support - the timing was perfect - I'm meeting this morning with a couple who have a track record in financing production - I'm asking for $250,000.

Before doing the exercise I was scared to death about asking and was prepared to fake confidence. Doing the exercise is helping me dispel the fears - to realize that I have something very valuable to offer - ME and a great story.

Thanks.

Charlie, This is a great post. I'm really glad that the exercise helped you. For those of you wondering what he's referring to, it was an exercise that I posted for our Documentors Fundraising eCourse members. It basically takes you through a process to recognize what is unconsciously blocking your success with bringing money into your project. And you brought up a great point - you really can't "fake confidence", because if you don't truly believe that what you have to offer is valuable and worth investing in, then no one will feel comfortable trusting you with their money. I hope the "ask" goes well! Please let us know! -- Jilann

I highly recommend that everyone read "The Soul of Money" by Lynne Twist. I just did a 3 day workshop with her and she has amazing insights on "rich folks" and how we relate to money in general. I found her ideas to be absolutely transformative.

I agree it can be really embarrassing to ask for money ... unless you're TOTALLY convinced that you are offering someone a noble way to use their money. They have the option... and if the stars align, they might just opt to dedicate some of their funds to your worthy cause. I think we all (myself included) just need to work on our topic, messages and ourselves until we get to that point.
